Heart of Thanksgiving

“Let us come into his presence with thanksgiving; let us make a joyful noise to him with songs of praise!”
– Psalm 95:2

This is Thanksgiving week and many of us are busy getting ready for family time.

Some families have a tradition of praying together and then each person shares something he or she is thankful for before the  Thanksgiving meal. A wonderful tradition that draws families away from the world and closer to God and each other for a few minutes. Peaceful. Safe. Joyful. The feelings of God, love and family.

Then, Friday comes and we are back in the world’s chaotic rat race. Those peaceful feelings can quickly change to frustration and stress.  What if we could have those peaceful and joyful feelings every day?

WE CAN! Let’s keep our eyes on Jesus! Take a few minutes of each day to give thanks for the countless blessings in our lives. God adds new blessings to our lives each day! Tell HIM what you are thankful for today, and everyday.

A heart walking with Jesus,  singing praises and Thanksgiving is a happy and peaceful heart!

I Cannot Do It Alone

Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God.  And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.”

– Colossians 3:16-17

Yesterday was the Lord’s day! God’s work in the lives of many in our community was alive and vivid. On days like that, I just want to savor every touch of Jesus I can and every sight of others experiencing His joy for the first time.

Then it happened. In the middle of a day meticulously orchestrated by God,  Satan shows up at lunch. The conversation among a group of believers at a near by table turned sour and slanderous for a few minutes.

And unfortunately, I allowed the enemy to draw my attention to what was being said. And for a little while, I became angry, then sad about the words I heard. But soon afterwards, I realized that I allowed Satan to draw me in. I said a prayer for the situation and asked forgiveness for my active listening and judgment.

“Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.” – James 4:7

As a born again believer, I represent Jesus Christ every day. I need to guard my heart, eyes and ears at all times. The enemy WILL show up  hoping to distort my behavior and steal my joy.

The light and love of Jesus cannot be seen through me if I allow Satan to stand in front of me. I must stand arm and arm with the Holy Spirit to stop Satan’s plans.

I cannot do it alone. How about you?

Life is better with Jesus!

Seasons

For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven: a time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up what is planted” – Ecclesiastes 3:1-2

My favorite season has always been summer! Long days, warm evenings, and blue skies are just perfect for me. But seasons change and soon fall is here.

I never enjoyed fall because I dreaded the ushering in of cooler temperatures, shorter days, and…..winter on its heels. That’s right, I wouldn’t enjoy fall because of my dread of cold, bleak-looking winter!

Finally, I realized my silliness.  Now, I try hard to enjoy the many facets of the fall season AND early winter: beautiful foliage, pumpkin patch, fall festivals, hot chocolate, Thanksgiving,  and Christmas. (But honestly, here in the south, we are usually having a heat wave around Christmas!)

God gives nature the fours seasons to plant, nurture, harvest, and renew just as He gives us four seasons of life: birth, growth, harvest, and death. And within those major seasons are many small experiences that He gives us ( and nature)with specific timing and purpose. While we may not like the season we are in, faith in God will enable us to peacefully embrace the season, accepting His timing and purpose.

If we rebel against God’s timing, we miss out on so many precious joys. Our seasons change but God does not. HE is the same yesterday today, and forever.

Today, I pray for God to give you the strength, patience and joy needed to embrace your current season.

Put God First

“Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.”
– Philippians 4:8

In this verse, Paul says to program ourselves to think about things that are true, honest, just, pure, lovely,  of good report, virtuous and praiseworthy.

But, HOW?

Put God first in all that we do.

He is crazy about you!
God's Love

He is crazy about you!

God is crazy about you.
He sends you flowers every spring and
a sunrise every morning.
Whenever you want to talk, He’ll listen.
He can live anywhere in the universe,
and yet He chose your heart.

It is of the Lord‘s mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness.”

God's Love Good News Kingdom of God

The Greatest Gift of Love

God loves us! This we know because He gave his only son to die for us so that we could receive the gift of salvation and live forever in His kingdom.

There is no condemnation by Jesus. When He died on the cross for us, He traded his righteousness for our sin. Remember He is sinless. But he came and lived on earth, to teach us how to live, then he died through sufferings that should be ours, the sinners. He took our place. The greatest gift of love…. ever.

Jesus died for us, and we should be living for him! If you believe, and have confessed Jesus is Lord, and repented of your sins, you have received the gift of salvation. You are a child of God! You are not condemned but guaranteed eternal life through Jesus. Don’t let Satan tell you otherwise! Celebrate your freedom in Christ and let Him walk with you each day!
