I have been studying the book of Phillippians this week. Yesterday, I saw a note I had written in chapter 2. I cannot remember if the note was a quote from a sermon I heard or if is from my own thoughts when previously studying the chapter. (I usually write a name beside any quotes I write in my Bible. No name beside this.)
It says, “Get the weeds out of your Christian life.”
Weeds in a Christian’s life?! Really?!
Yes, really! I wish we could say there are no weeds in our lives but we know we cannot . We all fall short of the glory of God. We all have weeds in our life from time to time; bitterness, jealousy, anger, gossiping, malice, etc. We must be careful, such weeds can spread like wildfire, destroying everything around them.
Just as a garden will not bloom with weeds in it, our life with Jesus will not bloom with weeds in it. The only way we can show others the beauty of Jesus is by pulling the weeds out of our life.
“Do everything without grumbling or arguing, so that you may become blameless and pure, children of God without fault in a warped and crooked generation. Then you will shine among them like stars in the sky as you hold firmly to the word of life…”- Phillippians 2:14-16
