Happy. Playful. Laughter. Smiles. Bright Eyes. Inquisitive. This is what I see when I watch my grandchildren. It doesn’t matter if they’re playing, watching TV, or just having an interaction with us, they always exude immeasurable joy and focus on the experience at hand.
Last year, I used this observation as a self check. I know I have the joy of the Lord because I’m a born-again child of God. But am I using that joy to love life and experience life to the fullest as God intended?
I must admit that I did not pass this self check. I realized that I had been too self-absorbed and too concerned about what others thought about new challenges and opportunities I had embraced through God’s direction.
God did not offer me new things because He thought others would approve, He doesn’t care about that. He gave me more opportunities to draw closer to Him, expand in my service to Him and others, and ultimately experience immense joy and blessings. But if I was doing the job, while worrying about approval ratings of others, I was missing out on the actual ‘experience’ and deeper joy; just going the motions and not giving God my best.
It is so easy to get caught in Satan’s web of lies when we let our guard down and shift our focus the least bit away for God and His plan.
So each day, I pray to stay in step with Jesus. I pray for the eyes and heart of a child. I pray for power against the enemy’s daily ploys to steal my joy. I pray for renewed and protected joy in the Lord, in life and in every breathtaking experience He puts in my path.
“And I commend joy, for man has nothing better under the sun but to eat and drink and be joyful, for this will go with him in his toil through the days of his life that God has given him under the sun.” – Ecclesiastes 8:15
