“Hear me when I call, O God of my righteousness! You have relieved me in my distress;
Have mercy on me and hear my prayer.
How long, O you sons of men, will you turn my glory to shame? How long will you love worthlessness and seek falsehood? Selah
But know that the Lord has [c]set apart for Himself him who is godly;
The Lord will hear when I call to Him.
Be[d] angry, and do not sin. Meditate within your heart on your bed and be still. Selah
Offer the sacrifices of righteousness And put your trust in the Lord.
There are many who say, “Who will show us any good?”
Lord, lift up the light of Your countenance upon us. You have put gladness in my heart, More than in the season that their grain and wine increased. I will both lie down in peace, and sleep;
For You alone, O Lord, make me dwell in safety.”
Psalm 4 (NKJV)
David had inner-constant joy that comes only from the presence of God. The joy that defeats sadness, discouragement, and anger!
When we give our lives to Jesus, we inherit that same joy. We are now set apart by God though the Holy Spirit. But, oh, how we must constantly guard our heart and joy from the enemy, especially in our darkest seasons. In those times, Satan will prey on our weaknesses and convince us that God does not hear our prayers. BUT, GOD DOES hear our prayers!! And He answers!! Not according to our expectations, but because of His incomprehensible love for us, and according to His will for our lives that will bring glory to Him.
We cannot have the peace of God without the presence of God. To live in joy means to live in the presence of God. He is not an object we put a shelf and take down when we ‘need’ something. He is our constant source of life and joy.
Thank you, Father for your Son, Jesus.
Thank you, Jesus for dying on the cross so that we can have everlasting life.
Thank you, Holy Spirit for living within and guiding our days.
